Vegan Seitan Country Fried Chicken unchicken

Vegan Country Fried Chicken Unchicken Recipe

So here it is! The mouth watering seitan chicken unchicken recipe I found that was finger licking good! LOL! If you are ready to eat then let's begin. Do realize you will be making this recipe from scratch and you will wow yourself and your family as well as dinner guest when you make this dish. You can also make Vegan country fried steak with this same recipe it's just all the way you shape your seitan before boiling it. It does require some time on our part but it will all be worth it in the end. I recommend playing your favorite songs on your iPod or MP3 player, get a glass of chilled sparkeling cider or your favorite drink and get your apron on and kick everyone out of the kitchen! Let's make a little Tasty Eden Treat!!!!!

So again this a recipe that I have tried and love. I hope you do too and don't hesitate to share this recipe with others who are dying to try good food. Send them to www.tastyedentreats.com

Vegan Seitan Chicken Recipe

4 cups vital wheat gluten flour

1/2 cup nutritional yeast

4TBS flour

2cups cold water

1 cup Bragg's Liquid aminos

2 TBS olive oil

flavorings: onion powder, Spike seasoning, fresh minced garlic, tomato paste, marmite, fresh chopped parsley

For drum sticks....I used B-B-Q wooden skewers or just use your imagination.

Combine dry ingredients in a large bowl

in a separate bowl, combine wet ingredients

Mix wet and dry in a large bowl and knead the dough until it becomes spongy and elastic. ( I know! eeewwww just get someone else to knead them kick them out the kitchen!)

Pull small chunks of the dough and try to shape it into the form of chicken legs or chicken breast or you can mush and smash to make flat peices for Seitan Country Fried Steak. And it should look something like this:

You are almost there! Now let them sit while you make your vegetable broth to simmer them in for 90minutes...I know...but just think of dinner!

Now you can use any of your dry and fresh seasonings/herbs you have in your refrigerator or pantry, i.e fresh oregano, fresh parsley, tomato paste, molasses, dried sage, marmite cayenne pepper, fresh onion or onion and garlic powder. Add all of them in a large pot of water.

Add all your seitan peices into the broth and bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and cover and gently simmer for 90 minutes. If you boil them too fast they will swell so you should stick to the slow simmer time. It will be just fine.

After the seitan peices have been simmered and cooled you can now make more things with the seitan peices if you find it to be too much....vegan meat balls, vegan taco meat, vegan chicken nuggets and guess what...you can freeze it too and you now have more for future Tasty Eden Treats!

Now you can prepare your batter:

1 bowl with flour about 2 cups should do but keep some on hand incase you need more

1 bowl with Ener G egg replacer ( prepare about 4-6 eggs..directions are on the box), a few cups of soy mild and a few squirts of Bragg's Liquid Amino. Stir with a fork and let sit to get thick and bubbly

1 bowl with crushed vegan crackers or vegan bread crumbs and other spices of your choice...I used nutrional yeast, salt, onion powder, garlic powder, chopped fresh parsley, and some vegan chicken seasoning of your choice...either way it will be awesome.

Coat each peice in this order: 1.flour 2. egg/soy milk mix 3. cracker mix

You can choose either to oven fry or stove top fry.

Get out your favorite frying pan and pour about 1/2 inch of the vegetable oil in pan and let it get really hot before adding peices. Cook until golden brown. Resist the urge to eat it up before it gets to the table! Enjoy with a side dish of your choice. I did red skinned mashed potatoes and corn on the cob with steamed vegetables and a nice wholesome salad!

From my kitchen to yours! Tasty Eden Treats wish you a successful dinner! Until next time!
